Caster Tray, Inc. crafted the WiFi Surveyor as a mobile indoor access point and antenna mounting system for conducting wireless site surveys. It mounts access points and antennas to optimal height and location, enabling the WLAN Engineer to achieve increasingly accurate readings of the RF environment. It provides a mobile platform that supports the necessary tools for obtaining the best results. It is designed to work in conjunction with any wireless site survey software such as Ekahau and AirMagnet. It meets requirements for airline travel and is compact enough to stow away in a vehicle.
THE WiFi SURVEYOR ADVANTAGE
Competing Products
WiFi Surveyor
Tripod-based design
Mounts Antennas only
Rigid platform with casters
The ability to roll is a definite advantage for easy movement throughout the site. The aluminum alloy frame structure maintains the balance of the pole and the mount while emulating the rigid quality of a tripod. The WiFi Surveyor offers increased ROI because a single person can do the entire site survey with ease.

Mounts Access Point and Antennas
Mounting the AP to the desired location and height is the best way to achieve the best simulated RF environment setting possible when performing the site survey. If antennas are mounted alone, there will be considerable signal attenuation do the long RF cables used in the setup. Patch antennas or dipole antennas can be mounted using the 1.5 foot WiFi Surveyor extension mount. The swiveling, threaded mast head plate can easily accommodate mounting of any AP bracket in both vertical and horizontal positions.
RF Cable runs outside the pole
CAT5 Ethernet Cable runs inside telescopic pole
Power over Ethernet is fed to the access point thru the CAT5 Ethernet cable which runs inside the aluminum telescopic pole and terminates at the base into a standard CAT5 jack. This design
eliminates the hassle of keeping the cable from snagging onto objects while in motion as well as retracting or extending the pole. The retractable pole can extend up to 12 feet in height. The rubber grip
allows the user to hold and move the whole
setup easier.
No POE battery pack holder
Cushioned battery compartment
To prevent shock, foam rubber material wraps the POE battery that is positioned on top of the mobile platform eliminating the need to physically carry the POE battery pack throughout the site. It can power all Cisco APs and all 802.3af-compliant access points.
Inefficient design
Streamlined site survey process
Carrying around and keeping track of the POE battery, tripod, and tablet PC on every floor and in every room slows down the survey. The WiFi Surveyor is designed to enable smooth transition from area to area. The mobile platform is equipped with heavy-duty three inch casters. It has a built-in placeholder for POE battery pack/charger, measuring wheel, laptop, clipboard, and magnetic white board for labeling purposes.
No handle
Front carry handle
This handle is necessary for better grip when working on uneven floors and when traveling up or down the stairs.
Fragile assembly and storage options
Professional assembly and storage
The WiFi Surveyor is easy to assemble and fits in a crush-proof, water-resistant airplane-safe wheeled case and padded vinyl shoulder case.
Limited customization
Custom-made
Each WiFi Surveyor is designed to address the requirements of the indoor site survey process and includes a personalized nameplate.
